PECHAKUCHA
This week we have done an exhibition about Netherlands in pairs.
My topic was the most famous buildings, so, I've choose 20 famous buildings to share with my class mates. This are the buildings:
1. Sint Nicolaasker:
This church that was built
in 1887 by Adrianus Bleijs to replace the Amstelkring that was converted in a
museum. This church is located in centre
Amsterdam, and it’s dedicated to Nicolau of Mira.
2. Rijksmuseum:
Is a museum was built in
1885 by Pierre Cuyper, and it’s located in the Museumplein; a square full of museums
in Amsterdam. The building has a mixture of gothic and renaissance elements
that are combined with references of the history of dutch art.
3. Delft city hall:
Is the city hall of Delft,
was built in 1618 by Hendrik de Keyser, and we can find paintings of that time
where we can see this famous building. It has a renaissance style.Still today, is the place where residents hold their civil
wedding ceremonies. It was restored in the 20th Century.
4. Anne Frank house:
This building built in 1635
by Dirk van delft, it’s in the side of one of Amsterdam’s canals. This was the
refugee of Anne Frank during the wordl II war. Nowadays is famous museum that
you can visit every day.The canal’s house has 2 parts; the Anne’s frank hiding
place converted into a museum and a part that consists of an exhibition of the
discrimination and persecution.
5. Van gogh museum:
This building consists on 2
parts and the architect was Gerrit Rietveld in 1973. The museum includes 200
paintings and about 400 drawings. The museum also has a lot of letters of the
painter. The museum is located in the Museumplein, Amsterdam. In this 2016 the
museum had got about 2 millon visitors.
6. Institute
of sound and vision:
This building was built in
2006. The Institute of sound and vision collect over 750.000 hours of
television, radio, music and films. It’s one of the largest audiovisual archieves in Europe. It is located in a place called
media Park in Hilversum.
7. Kasteel de haar:
This castle was built in
1973 by an architect named Pierre Cuypers ho done a
neo gothic restauration of the ruins of the first castle that was demolished by
the years 1391.. This castle is located in Utrecht and was of the Haar family.
8. Valkenburg castle:
It’s a ruined castle
situated in Valkenburg aan de Geul and it was builded in the 1115 and survived
since 1122. It was destroyed by Henry the 5th, a roman emperor.
Then, it was restored but
was another time destroyed 100 years after by Jan the 3th, Duke of Brabant.
It’s very special for the
Ducth people because is the only castle builded on a hill.
9. Royal
palace of Amsterdam:
The royal palace is one of
the three places which are at the disposal of the monarch by act of parliament.
It was built as a city hall during the dutch golden age. It is situated on the
west side of dam square in the center of Amsterdam. It was built on 1648 by
Jacob van Campen. Louis Napoleon, brother of Napoleon Bonaparte, coverted this
town hall into a royal palace for himself.
10. Magna plaza: the Magna plaza is a
monumental building and a shopping centre. They began building it on the 1895
and they finished on te 1899. Before building the Magna plaza there was the
Royal Post Office, built by Federick-Willem Conrad. But this building was taken
down in 1897.
When it was finally built,
there was a problem. The building’s foundation had to be repaired but finally
in 1992 was opened to the public
11. Amsterdam’s library:
Openbare Bibliotheek
Amsterdam is the name for all the public librarys in Amsterdam. The most
important one is the central library that has more than 1,7 million books and
326 employees.It costed 80 million euros and the building was designed by Jo
Coenen.
If you want to go it you
must go from 10 am. since 10 pm and you can arrive there very easy.There are
loads of metro and bus stops. There also are a bicycle parking for free.
12. De bijenkorf:
Is situated in The Dam
Square and it was founded by Simon Philip Goudsmit in the 1870. There are three
De bijenkorf shops in Amsterdam. One of them had an accident and a southern
part of the shop been destroyed. Then, They sold the northern part of the shop
and builded the underground of Rotterdam
If you want to
buy something in this shop, is the perfect moment. There is a 30% of discount!
13. The peace palace:
Is a administrative building
situated in The Hague opened in the 28th of August of 1913 and costet 1,5
millions to build it.
Inside this palace, there
are:
- The international Court of Justice.
- The permanent Court of Arbitration,
which is an organisation that resolve disputes between the states
- The Hague Academy of International
Law, which is a center of high-level education established in 1923.
- The Peace Palace Library which has
collections only speciallized in international law.
14. Mauritshuis:
It was created in1822 and is
an art museum situated in The Hague, Netherlands. It has a kot of paintings
about the Dutch Golden Age and has some paintings of famous painters like
Johaness Vermeer, Rembrandt Van Rijn and Jan Steen. There are loads of famous
paintings like Girl with a Pearl Earring of Johaness Vermeer or the Anatomy
lesson of Dr. Nicolaes Tulp by Rembrandt Van Rijn .
15. Binnenhof:
It’s a complex of buildings in the city centre of The Hague,
next to the Hofvijver lake. In the 13th Century,
this castle was used as the residence of the counts of Holland and became the
political centre of the Dutch Republic. Then, it was converted into a meeting
place of the State General of the Netherlands as well as the ministry of general
affairs and the office of the Prime
Minister of the Netherlands.
16. Palace Noordeinde:
Is one of the three oficial
palaces of the royal famil and it is located in the Hague. Nowadays is used as
the working palace for King Willem-Alexander since 2013. The place originated
as a medieval farmhouse and it was rebuilt in 1533. I 1948 the central part of
the palace waas destroyed by fire and in 1984 they restored it and became the
Dutch monarch’s workplace
17. Gemeentemuseum Den Haag:
This museum was built in
1931 by Hendrik Petrus Berlage.This museum located in The Hague consists of 4
parts: Modern art exposition (like as Pablo
Picasso paintings), print room exposition(Jan Toorop for example),
fashion exposition (like Gabrielle Chanel) and music exposition that includes a
large collection of musical instruments and a music library.
18. Den Haag HS railway station:
This is the oldest railway
station of The Hague. This railway was opened in 1834 and it has 6 plattforms
of bus, train and tram via. In 1870 the competing companies opened a second
central station in The Hague, which in
1973 was destroyed to make space
for the central train station Den Haag. As result, at the momen there are 2
main stations; central station station and Hollands Spoor.
19. Escher museum
The Escher museum is a
museum built in 2002 that is situated in The Hague. In the museum, there only
was works of Maurits Cornelis Escher. In 2015, there was a problem. It was
revealed that many of the paints in the museum were replicas scanned from original prints and
printed onto the same type of paper used by Escher. We can found some famous
works by Escher like Air and Water, Belvedere and Waterfall.
Before being the museum, it was a palace
from queens in 1900’s and the first and second floor of the museum has some
exhibitions showing the royal period of the palace.
20. The whale amsterdam:
This building was built in
2000 by Frits van Dongen and is situated in Amsterdam. Inside the building there is a natural garden where you
can walk, sit, study and others. The Whale is a
residencial complex. The block contains 214 apartments, commercial spae
and semi-public interior courtyard and an underground car park. The façade is
full of windows of the apartments. So, if you want to live appart of the city
center, this is the perfect place.
